Essential Bike Checks

Petrol – Have you enough for your journey or is there a fuel station on route to fill up? What is the tank capacity & how many miles do you get to a gallon?

OIL – Is the oil level correct? What grade Oil does your bike require?
Where is the oil filler?

WATER – Is the water level correct? Where do you top this up?

DRIVE / DAMAGE – Chain & sprockets, are these in good condition, adjusted correctly & lubricated? Drive shaft operating correctly? Gears shifting correctly? Anything that needs attention?

Electrics – Lights, Indicators, horn & accessories all in good working order?

Rubber – Tyre tread legal & no signs of any damage? Correct tyre pressures?

YOU – Yes, you! Are you physically fit to ride? Are in the right frame of mind to ride? Have you the correct safety clothing?
You should get in the habit of carrying out these basic checks before each ride not just when going off on a tour or long distance ride.
