Tyre Care

Your motorbike’s tyres are the only point of contact with the road, making their care essential. Regular maintenance not only extends their lifespan but also enhances performance. So, how can you effectively maintain your motorbike tyres?

Basic checks

  • Check correct tyre pressures.
  • Check for ware
  • Check general tyre condition
  • Check balancing weights are still in place

Maintaining the correct tyre pressure isn’t just about making sure your tyres last. It’s a huge part of staying safe on the road. The right pressure helps your bike handle smoothly, grip the road properly, and avoid needless wear. So when you check your tyres, take a few minutes to give them a proper once-over.

Start by looking for any abnormal or irregular wear. Check for patches that are wearing faster than the rest. Look for a strange pattern developing across the tyre. Ensure the tread depth is above the wear indicators. If it is worn down to the indicators, you need a new tyre soon.

Keep an eye out for damage, such as bulges, cuts, or tears. Look for any nails, screws, or other sharp objects that may have lodged in the rubber. If you spot something you’re unsure about, seek advice. If you notice unusual wear patterns, get it checked by a professional tyre fitter.

For severe wear, replace your bike’s components. This occurs when the indicators are worn flat or your bike’s grip feels compromised. You should consider getting a new one. And while you’re at it, check that your wheels are properly balanced. Ensure that the small weights used to balance them are securely in place. Balanced wheels help keep your ride smooth, stable, and comfortable, reducing vibrations and making sure your tyres wear evenly.
