🏍️ Day 8 – The Long Ride Home: Sunshine, Sea Air & One Worn-Out Tyre on the Wild Atlantic Way

The final day of our Ireland adventure was a mix of reflection and relief. We rode through the familiar countryside back towards Dublin and then the ferry. Every mile carried memories of the previous week — from cliffs to pubs and curves to quiet lanes.

After a late-ish night enjoying the warmth of Irish hospitality on the Wild Atlantic Way, I enjoyed the hospitality. I savored my final few pints of Guinness. The evening was delightful. 🍻 Day 8 began with a leisurely start. There was no rush today. Only 105 miles to the ferry remained. The road ahead promised one last relaxing ride across the Irish countryside.

The sun peeked through soft clouds as I packed the tent away for the final time. My faithful steed stood ready, though by now I was definitely suspicious about that pesky rear tyre. 🤨 As the journey unfolded on the Wild Atlantic Way, that tyre seemed to narrate tales. It told stories of the long routes traveled.

I set off slowly. I took my time cruising through peaceful backroads along the Wild Atlantic Way. I soaked up every last drop of Ireland’s charm. The ride was smooth and scenic—no motorways, just flowing tarmac and rolling green hills waving me goodbye. 🌿🏞️

Crossing the last stretch of open countryside. We couldn’t help but smile. Eight days brought us countless memories and stories for a lifetime.

Having reached the port with time to spare and checked in for the Irish Ferries Swift service. True to its name, it was all go from there. We were lined up and ushered onboard. I was sipping an overpriced coffee ☕ before I even had time to blink. I paired that with a cheeky blueberry muffin. I gazed out over the Irish Sea. I took it all in one last time. I reflected on the wild journey along the Atlantic way.

Landed in Anglesey. I still had a little fuel in the tank, both metaphorically and literally. I made a detour around the peninsula. This was one final scenic blast before the long return to Cambridgeshire. I was tired but content. I made my way home. My head buzzed with memories of epic roads, epic views, and epic laughs experienced on the Wild Atlantic Way.

💥 Postscript:
Remember that loss of tyre pressure from Day 3? The rear tyre was on its way out. By the time I got home, it was worn right down to the cords 😳. No wonder it couldn’t hold pressure! A well-earned retirement for that bit of rubber after carrying me across a country along the Wild Atlantic Way.

🚨 What’s Next?…. First new rubber 🤨

Just because Ireland’s done doesn’t mean the adventure ends!

🧭 Coming up:
