Day 11 – Solvang to Moskosel – 699 km / 8h 20m 🏍️
This was our longest day so far! With no fixed destination, we knew we had to cover at least 630 km to stay on schedule for the ferry back to Denmark.
🌧️ Another waterproof day
We left Solvang at 08:30 – and yes, you guessed it – the rain was already falling. As we rode out of Alta, we climbed our first mountain pass of the day with lovely switchbacks and torrents of water cascading beside the road.
☕ Breakfast & brake drama
We stopped at a Circle K in Kautokeino for fuel and breakfast: the usual coffee with a cheese-filled, bacon-wrapped hot dog – this time followed by a cinnamon swirl. However, the bike didn’t feel right at low speed, and on inspection we found a worn front brake pad!
A quick Google search showed the nearest Ducati dealer was 26 hours away! We tried a nearby Yamaha/quad/snowmobile dealer – very helpful, but no pads that would fit. So, we pushed on.
❄️ Cold crossing into Lapland
The rain eased as we reached the Finland border just before midday. At 4 °C with an even colder wind chill, coffee stops became essential. We visited the Lapland Shop, where we both bought socks “worn locally” in temperatures as low as –25 °C – instant warmth for our frozen feet.
🇸🇪 Into Sweden on the E45
We crossed into Sweden at 13:50, grabbed the border photo, then continued along the E45 – a fast, straight road lined with tall trees, with only occasional bends. A great ride, even if the scenery was limited. Passing through Kabdalis, we could still see snow on the pistes!
⛺ Searching for a campsite
By now we had passed our mileage target, so we searched for a campsite. One option required turning onto a gravel track – not ideal after 8+ hours in the saddle on fully loaded adventure bikes. Running low on fuel, we pressed on and finally found a site – tonight’s accommodation: teepees! Well, a deal is a deal…
Tomorrow we continue south – aiming for another 650 km before pitching up again.
