📍 Day 0 – The Big Departure: Riding into the Unknown

⛴️ Ferry: Overnight to Hook of Holland
The waiting is over. After months of planning, prepping, route plotting, bike fettling, gear-checking (and re-checking), the time has finally come. The clock ticks past the last hour of the workday, and just like that… we’re out the door and into adventure mode. 💥
There’s something surreal about leaving work behind and jumping straight into the unknown. One minute you’re finishing emails, the next you’re pulling on your riding gear, engine purring beneath you, helmet locked down — heart pounding.
Tonight’s leg is a short one by distance, but monumental in meaning. We’re riding to Harwich, the starting point of a 17-day motorbike journey through Holland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, and up to the mighty Nordkapp before circling back via Sweden. But first, it’s fish and chips (or maybe a curry?) and a tank full of fuel in Harwich before boarding the overnight ferry to the Hook of Holland. 🌍⛴️
We’re buzzing with excitement — the kind that only comes from the open road and a full tank of freedom. But there’s also a dose of trepidation. Have we packed everything? Will the weather play ball? Storm Floris had just torn through Norway days before — smashing into the very regions we were heading toward. Roads flooded. Landslides reported. Ferries cancelled. Could this grand plan be derailed before it even begin?
But that’s part of the magic. The uncertainty. The unexpected. The adventure.
As we roll into Harwich under the soft glow of the setting sun, we know we’ve already made the most important move: we started.
Tomorrow, the continent awaits. Tonight, we sleep aboard a ship — bikes tied down below, helmets hung, dreams of winding roads and northern lights spinning in our heads.
