Day 3 – Kristiansand to Forsand: Hairpins, Rain & a Man Called Tottenham Hotspur 🏍️🌧️

Distance: ~ km | Time: — hrs | Weather: Rain & low cloud | Route: Road 9 & 42, Øygardstøl, Lysebotn hairpins, ferry to Forsand

Breakfast by the Fjord

We started the day in Kristiansand with a proper biker’s breakfast — strong coffee and plenty of fuel for the body before fuelling the bikes. From there, we set off towards Lysebotn, taking the beautiful Road 9 and Road 42.

Sweeping Roads, Moody Skies

Both roads were superb, with long sweeping bends that were pure joy to ride. Unfortunately, the rain and low cloud meant the dramatic Norwegian scenery was a little shy today.

Øygardstøl & the Moon-Like Plateau 🌌

A stop at Øygardstøl gave us the chance to snap some photos of the lunar-like landscape before grabbing another coffee at the café at the top of Lysebotn. Then came one of Norway’s legendary challenges — 17 hairpin bends carving their way down to the Sirdal Valley.

Rain, a Ferry, and Tottenham Hotspur (the Man) ⚽

At the bottom, the rain was still coming down, so we decided to take the ferry to Forsand for the night. While waiting for it to arrive, we met one of the day’s most memorable characters — a local who had legally changed his name to Tottenham Hotspur because of his devotion to the football club. You meet the most unexpected people on a motorbike adventure.

💬 Quote of the Day: “When the clouds close in, the road becomes the view.”

Day 4 – Forsand to Voss: Fjords, Ferries & Soaked to the Bone 🏍️🌧️

Distance: 395 km | Time: 7 hours 15 minutes | Weather: Showers & rain | Route: Forsand → Oanes → Luvik → Sandnes → Hjelmeland → Nesvik → Granvin → Flatandsmo

A Change of Plan & a Bridge Over the Fjord 🌉

Leaving Forsand, our plan was to take the ferry — but spotting a bridge across the fjord changed everything. A quick detour took us to the port of Oanes, where we hopped on the ferry to Luvik.

Coffee, Cake & Clouds ☕🍰

From there, we enjoyed a great coffee and some excellent cakes at Konditoriet in Sandnes — the perfect mid-morning treat. By 13:30, the rain arrived just as we were waiting for the ferry from Hjelmeland to Nesvik. Thankfully, we’d just pulled on our waterproofs — impeccable timing.

The Long Wet Ride to Voss

The rain set in for the rest of the day, but it didn’t dampen our fun. The lovely sweeping bends kept smiles on our faces, even if the views were hidden behind the mist.

Flatandsmo – Shelter & Warmth 🏕️

After a petrol stop and supermarket supply run in Granvin, we rolled into our planned campsite… only to find it closed. A quick search found Flatandsmo Camping. The friendly owners, perhaps out of pity for two drenched bikers, offered us a warm cabin for the night. Absolute legends.

💬 Quote of the Day: “A closed campsite is just a sign you’re meant to find a better story.”

In July 2026, Steve & Duncan aka The Happy Bikers are setting off on a trip of a lifetime. We are riding around the world. We would love you to follow our journey. The Happy Bikers Global Adventure will be shared on our socials.
