Day 1 – Dublin Drama, Mountain Magic & Blarney Beers
Date: May 2nd, 2025
Day 1 always has a different kind of energy.
The bikes are loaded, the plan is in place… and there’s that mix of excitement and “have we forgotten something?” as we head for the ferry.
This wasn’t just the start of a trip — it was the beginning of our full Ireland motorcycle adventure.
Arrived at the port & picked up our first puncture.
Is there a better way to start an epic tour along the Wild Atlantic Way? We got a flat tyre before even boarding the ferry.
One of the bikes decided it wanted a bit more attention. It picked up a puncture just as we reached the port. Minutes were ticking down. Boarding was looming. We whipped out the repair kit. We got it plugged quicker than a YouTuber pushing merch. Crisis (mostly) averted as we embarked on our Wild Atlantic Way journey.

This ride is part of our full Ireland motorcycle tour — you can see the full route and plan here.
Onboard, we did what any self-respecting bikers do. We ate our weight in ferry breakfast and grabbed a strong coffee. Then, we started phoning around for a replacement tyre. Luck (and German engineering) were on our side: Dublin Motorrad had one in stock and could fit it that day. But it meant our comrade had to hang back while we pushed on south, beginning our Wild Atlantic Way adventure.
Our route was an absolute cracker. We enjoyed the twisties at Powerscourt Mountain. We had a refreshing stop at Wicklow Waterfall 💧. Then, we took a quick leg-stretch in Dungarvan 🦵☕ before hitting Blarney. We stocked up on supplies (food & beer 🥪🍻) before heading to our first campsite of the trip ⛺.
There’s always a moment on day one where it clicks — you’re no longer planning the trip, you’re in it.
One day in, and we’ve already got drama, scenery, and a few cold ones at camp. We settled in for the night, ready for whatever the Wild Atlantic Way threw at us next.
This is shaping up very nicely…
