Wild Atlantic Way

A complete Ireland motorcycle tour guide following the Wild Atlantic Way, including route planning, daily ride reports, and real-world tips.

Ireland wasn’t just another trip for us — it was one of those rides that sticks with you.
Tight coastal roads, Atlantic views that don’t quit, and days where the plan went out the window (in the best way possible).

This is our full Wild Atlantic Way motorcycle adventure — including the exact route, daily ride reports, and everything we learned along the way.

  • Duration: 8 Days
  • Route: Wild Atlantic Way (West Coast Ireland)
  • Start/Finish: UK → Ireland loop
  • Distance: ~X miles (add later)
  • Best for: Coastal riding, scenery, relaxed touring
  • Difficulty: Easy–Intermediate

The Wild Atlantic Way is what makes this trip unforgettable.

Over 1,500 miles of coastline, packed with sweeping bends, cliff-side views, and quiet roads that feel made for motorbikes.

It’s not about rushing from A to B — it’s about what happens in between.

  • Endless ocean views 🌊
  • Quiet, flowing roads 🛣️
  • Dramatic cliffs and coastal bends 🏔️
  • Friendly locals and proper Irish hospitality ☘️

One minute you’re carving through twisty coastal sections. The next you’re rolling into a small village. In this village, time slows down and the kettle is always on.

This isn’t just a route you ride — it’s one you feel.

Our 8-day tour took us from the UK. Then we traveled across to Ireland. We went down the mountainous east before going into the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Highlights included:

  • The stunning coastline around Dingle Peninsula
  • The iconic Cliffs of Moher
  • Remote, empty roads in County Mayo
  • The rugged beauty of Connemara
  • Ferry crossings, hidden gems, and plenty of “we didn’t plan this but it was brilliant” moments

Each day brought something completely different, which is what makes Ireland such an incredible place to explore by bike.

Ireland has a rhythm to it that just works for riding.

  • Roads are engaging without being overwhelming
  • Distances are manageable, making it perfect for multi-day touring
  • The scenery constantly changes, so you’re never bored
  • There’s always somewhere worth stopping

Yes, the roads can be narrow. The weather likes to keep things interesting 🌧️. But honestly, that’s all part of the adventure.

  • Riding the Dingle Peninsula in the sunshine
  • First glimpse of the Cliffs of Moher
  • Empty roads through Connemara
  • That random café stop you never planned

We’ve broken the full trip down day by day so you can follow the exact route — or just take inspiration for your own adventure.

One of our favourite moments?
We pulled over on a quiet stretch of the west coast. There was no traffic and no noise. Just the Atlantic was crashing beside us.

Those are the bits you don’t plan… and the ones you remember most.

Before you go, here are a few things we quickly learned:

  • Fuel up when you can in remote areas ⛽
  • Expect all four seasons in one day 🌦️
  • Take your time – this isn’t a place to rush
  • Don’t over-plan… some of the best moments are unplanned

If Ireland isn’t already on your list… it should be.

The Wild Atlantic Way delivers the kind of riding that sticks with you long after the trip ends. It’s not about speed or ticking boxes. It’s about the experience. It’s about the roads. It’s about the stories you come back with

Things we considered at the start of our planning

Ireland Tour 2025

Our 8-day 2010 mile motorcycle adventure began in Cambridgeshire. We traveled to the southernmost point of Ireland. And then ventured up to the Northern Ireland Boarder. The route covered mountains, Open sweeping bends, single tracks and some of the best sea views we have experienced.

England → Wales → Ireland
